Born
in St. Petersburg, Russia, Igor Lebedev began his musical training at
age eight and made his orchestral debut when he was nine. He received
his Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees from the St. Petersburg
State Conservatory, where he studied with the distinguished Russian
pianist, Professor Pavel Serebriakov. Since then, Mr. Lebedev has performed
extensively in the former Soviet Union, USA, Germany, Great Britain,
Italy, Portugal, Netherlands, South Korea, Czech Republic, Bulgaria,
and Turkey. He has recorded for such labels as Audiophile Classics,
Manchester Files (Germany), and St. Petersburg Records
(Russia). His set of six video cassettes "Chopin' s Twleve Etudes
Op. 25: Performance and Pedagogical Commentary" was released on
Ruart label (South Korea). Igor Lebedev is comfortable with all
the stylistic trends in piano music; however, works by Beethoven, Liszt,
Schumann, and Chopin belong to his favorites.
Lebedev's
performance career has been paralleled by his deep commitment to teaching.
Since 1977 he has been on the faculty of the St.
Petersburg Conservatory, where he was promoted to the rank of a
full professor in 1987, and served as a Dean of the Piano Department
from 1985 To 1996. Highly regarded as a teacher, his students have won
top prizes at numerous international piano competitions in the USA,
Europe, and Asia.
Mr. Lebedev
has been invited to teach and lecture in many music schools in Italy,
Spain, Netherlands, Finland, USA, Bulgaria, and Turkey. In recent years,
Igor Lebedev has been regularly invited to South Korea to conduct masterclasses
at the major universities of Seoul, Taegu, Taejon, and Pusan. He has
served on piano juries of several international piano competitions,
including Citta di Senigallia (Italy), Serebriakov International Piano
Competition (Russia), and Rachmaninoff Young Artist International Piano
Competition (Russia).
Mr.
Lebedev is also highly recognized as an author and editor, having published
over twenty-five articles on interpretation, pianism, and piano pedagogy.
